The ASICS Susquehanna River Running Festival presented by UM Upper Chesapeake Health is a 2,000 person footrace taking place on Saturday, September 21, 2024. The running festival consists of a 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon.

If you live, work, or travel through Havre de Grace or Perryville on September 21st you will encounter new traffic patterns and temporary closures along the race route. The information on this page is intended to minimize congestion and allow you to get where you need to go with as minimal disruption as possible.

Please reduce your speed and obey the direction of public safety officials if you plan to travel during the event.


HAVRE DE GRACE, MD

The 5k begins in Havre de Grace near 810 S. Union Avenue at 8:10 AM, and the Half Marathon begins one block north near 900 S. Union Avenue at 8:00 AM. All three races (5k, 10k, and Half Marathon) end on Commerce Street @ S. Washington Street adjacent to Tydings Park in Havre de Grace.

Parking restrictions are in place along the race route Saturday, September 21st for the safety of race participants and residents.

ROAD CLOSURES on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21:

  • Westbound Hatem Bridge (Route 40 between Otsego St. and Rt. 222) will close from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM. All westbound vehicles traveling over the Susquehanna River will be diverted north to I-95. Detour signage will be in place to guide motorists. Eastbound bridge traffic will be diverted to the westbound bridge lanes for the duration of the event.

  • Union Avenue, Otsego Street (between Union Ave & Juniata St.) and Juniata Street (between Otsego St. & Erie St) will be closed to vehicle traffic from 7:45 AM to 8:30 AM. No vehicles will be permitted to cross Union Avenue while race participants are in the vicinity, so if you need to cross Union Avenue on race morning please plan to do so before 7:45 AM or after 8:30 AM. Union Avenue will reopen as soon as 5k runners and walkers clear intersections traveling northbound.

  • Erie Street, the 800 block of N Adams Street, Park Drive, Conesteo Street, Water Street, Market Street, Girard Street, Concord Street, Alliance Street, and Commerce Street will be closed to vehicle traffic from approximately 7:45 AM to 11:00 AM. EXPECT PERIODIC DELAYS AND POSSIBLE DETOURS IF CROSSING THESE STREETS DURING THE EVENT. Law Enforcement will allow vehicles to cross only when gaps in race participants are large enough to safely do so. Motorists should follow the guidance of law enforcement when approaching these streets. Our goal is to get you where you need to go safely.

  • Commerce Street, adjacent to Tydings Park, will remain closed from approximately 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM while race and medical personnel are setting up, operating, and breaking down the finish line. All efforts will be made to clear the street as quickly as possible to allow traffic to flow normally.

 
 

PERRYVILLE, MD

The 10k race begins on the VA Perry Point campus at 8:30 AM. The Half Marathon and 10k races run through Perryville before crosing the bridge to finish in Havre de Grace.
